In the spring of 1989, Robert Lepage joined forces with a new Montreal theatre company, Theatre 1774, to direct it's first production; the adaptation of a book of prose poetry about a modern couple, a medieval convent, and a decaying God figure. The play was called "Echo". The film follows the project from it's first workshop to opening night and beyond, and gives a priviledged view of Lepage at work, and an engaging portrait of a small theatre company struggling to get a show on stage.
